8 Common Ways To Take Kratom

Usage of kratom is not documented well since its legality varies across different states and countries, and since the effects vary from person to person. However, just like with most plants (i.e. coffee, cannabis, etc) there are many distinct ways of taking Kratom.

Rules for Taking Kratom

There are no special rules for how you should take Kratom. It depends entirely on user preference, and what works for their bodies. As a general rule of thumb, Kratom acts as a euphoric drug at low doses (0.5g to 3g depending on the person) and a sedative drug at higher doses. Its effects will only be experienced if taken in the proper way.

We recommend you try out several of these methods out to see which works best for your body. Some methods may allow you to feel the effects faster than others, while others may produce bad effects (i.e. bad taste, nauseous, etc). Here are the 8 most common ways of consuming Kratom.

  1. Toss and Wash Method

This is the simplest method of taking Kratom.

It is also the quickest way of feeling the effects of kratom in your system. Simply follow these 4 steps:

  1. Measure out the correct dosage you need
  2. Place the powder into your mouth
  3. Will it around and swallow
  4. Drink water or juice to remove the aftertaste

However, one major drawback of this method is the bitterness of the plant, like most other leafy products. For this reason, the toss and wash method is not easy for beginners to deal with.

Because of the aftertaste and bitterness of Kratom, many users invented different recipes for brewing their own drinks. Some of these unique recipes include mixing the powder with olive oil, milk, tea, or juices.

  1. Taking Kratom with Juices

Many people like to mix acidic juices like lemon and grapefruit juice with their Kratom. The high acidity levels help solubilize the alkaloids present in the plant, allowing the effects to occur stronger and earlier than normal. Vitamin C pills are also supplemented with Kratom to induce the quicker effects.

  1. Brewing Kratom Tea

One of the most popular methods of preparing Kratom is through tea. Many users follow these steps when brewing their own Kratom teas:

  1. Add kratom leaves into a tea pot
  2. Boil the water and leaves for 30 minutes
  3. Add a slice of lemon or lime for better effects
  4. Allow leaves to settle to the bottom
  5. Drink it hot or allow tea to cool

Some users even use the leaves for a second brew to be economical. Also, the same steps can be used for Kratom powder; just make sure to sift out the powder properly after brewing the tea or use a coffee strainer. It’s a time-consuming procedure but has more consistent effects, and decent taste.

  1. Kratom with Yoghurt

Combining Kratom with flavoured yoghurt reduces bitterness and makes it easier to swallow.

The downside with this method is that you might not experience the full effects of Kratom. You might also not feel the effects right away since Kratom is recommended on an empty stomach.

To counter this, you may have to increase the dosage of Kratom when experimenting with any food products. Most unique combinations include:

  • Chilled applesauce
  • Oatmeal
  • Chocolate or vanilla pudding
  • Kratom cookies
  1. Chewing on Dried Leaves

In most farms, Kratom leaves are dried in order to preserve them and prolong shelf life. Depending on how well the kratom is stored (i.e. dry, dark, and air-tight environments), dried kratom can last more than 3 years. You can definitely chew on these dried leaves for its health benefits. However, since they are rough and bitter, it may cause gagging, choking, and even sickness. Furthermore, you will need to chew on plenty of dried leaves in order to achieve its full effects.

  1. Kratom Capsules

If you want to avoid the bitter taste of Kratom powder, and save time measuring out the correct dosage every time, try Kratom capsules. These products are available in specialty shops (usually online Kratom stores) and takes all the guess work out of dosage and methodology.

You simply swallow the indicated number of pills and, within 20-30 minutes, the effects should begin to manifest itself. The problem with this method is that the capsules encapsulating the kratom causes a delayed effect.

As a result, many people end up taking higher dosages of capsules as opposed to standalone Kratom leaves or powder. For your reference, each capsule equates to about 0.5 grams typically.

  1. Taking Kratom with Alcohol

Taking alcohol with Kratom can help you get stronger and faster effects. This is because the alkaloids contained in Kratom is soluble in alcohol, which makes digesting the powder or leaf much easier. Some people claim that mixing Kratom with alcohol is not safe because Kratom is a stimulant and alcohol is a depressant. However, no studies have shown that mixing the two is unsafe. Generally, the effects of alcohol tend to overpower the effects of Kratom since there is a maximum amount of Kratom you can take.

  1. Kratom Vapours

Although some users claim to have tried smoking Kratom leaves, it isn’t an efficient method.  Smoking dried foliage doesn’t give you the same intense effect as orally ingesting Kratom. You would need to smoke excessively large amounts in order to obtain the same results as a small amount of the plant.

Before you try any of these 8 methods, ensure you drink plenty of fluids in order to stay hydrated. Kratom is a diuretic substance that causes your body to produce urine because it increases blood flow through your kidneys. In other words, it causes you to become dehydrated, much like with coffee.

If you feel heavy in the head, you might have taken too much Kratom. Increasing your intake of fluids should dilute the amount of Kratom in your system and counter the effects.
